Biography of Hon. Akin Alabi

Full Biography of Hon. Akin Alabi
Editor
Hon Akin Alabi grew up in a home of politics. My dad was a politician, being a local leader who contested House of Reps elections but surprisingly lost. Actually when I lost in 2015 When I was trying again in 2019, I said to myself that if I lost, I was done…meaning it's in my family that we can't win House of Reps elections – my dad won councillorship election in the 60's though. It was when I won my election in 2019 that I was sure that it wasn't a curse. Lol. I can remember even as a 5-year old the name of the then governor of the state (Bola Ige of UPN) and the challenger who tried to take his seat (Olunloyo of NPN) – this shows you how long politics has been in my head. So, growing into the 90's I still liked it and followed everything; attended the local meetings for the AD in 1999. I however didn't contest for any political post all these years, despite my love for politics, because I didn't want to mix business with politics. By now you know that I preach that if you want to do something, you do it well.

And I love the tension of politics; my wife doesn't like it but I do. I think it's passion.

Yes, I'm also passionate about business, entrepreneurship, marketing, etc., but do you think I'm very "passionate" about sports betting? Well, it doesn't matter. What matters is that I successfully ran several businesses over the course of my entrepreneurial career and I was able to make enough money to indulge in my passion, politics. Politics isn't cheap. Contesting for any office at all requires a lot of money, talk less of going straight to the top level like the Federal House of Representatives. I'll confess to you; I was far richer (making more money) as an entrepreneur than I am as a politician. Trust me. But I've gotten the fulfillment I needed from that phase of my life (business) and it was time to switch to my ultimate passion of being able to affect the lives of my people positively through government resources. It was time to face new challenges. It just was simply time to enter politics. So I hope that whatever lofty ideals and passions you're nursing…
