List of Nigerian Governors that lost their States in 2023 General Election |
As various States in Nigeria prepare for their Governorship and House of Assembly Elections rescheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2023, it is important to look back on the just concluded 2023 Presidential Election and checkout some of the State Governors who lost their respective states to opposition Political Parties.
Surprisingly, some of these affected states lost to the fast-rising Labour Party (LP). LP has come to National limelight in the history of Nigeria since the Party's Presidential candidate - Peter Obi, joined the Party.
The national recognition given to the "Youth dominated" Party - (LP) has changed the political settings in Nigeria's Politics; even as the Party secured reasonable number of votes and seats in the upper Legislative Arm at the National Assembly - Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives respectively.
Here are 20 Governors that lost their State during the 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria:
- Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, (PDP) lost to APC
- Mai mala buni of Yobe State, (APC) lost to PDP
- Sen. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, (PDP) lost to LP

- Charles Soludo of Anambra State, (APGA) lost to LP
- Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, (PDP) lost to APC
- Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, (APC) lost to LP
Checks by daily News Report's political Analyst shows that most of those PDP states that lost to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC are as a result of the Party's franca amongst the leaders of the People's Democratic Party, PDP; which was not resolved till the Election day.
Also, the mass participation of Nigerian Youths turned massive votes for the LP Presidential candidate - Mr. Peter Obi. Though, he didn't win the election, but it seems to come as a surprise to those Political elites - seeing LP coming close third in the election; which indeed tells that the "Obidients" movement is gradually changing the Political atmosphere of the Nigerian Politics.
