Quest: What is more to being a fashion designer?

Guest: The job is to create designs for clothing and accessories and bring those designs to fruition, which may be made possible either sewing them on their own or monitoring their creation by staff or manufacturers. As a Fashioner, many fileds are incorporated into the job. To those working with staffs, each staff has area to build on.

Also, designer has his or her own aesthetic and level of specialization, and that aesthetic evolves over time as trends and the designer’s vision change. Fashion have taken over the world, because Fashion evolves overtime, need be for fashion designer to also grow with trending fashion news, updates and to get farmiliar with latest designs and how such designs are created.

Quest: Talking a Colour, what is the unique aspect?

Guest: No doubt, Colour is part of design and it is very important in making any design. Designer must get farmiliar with all Colours; the light, warm, shining, blur, and dark Colours, to be able to strike a balance when choosing the right material for his/her piece of design for Clients. 

Quest: How can one make more profit as a Designer?

Guest: Making profit varies, Designer must be aware of the business side of fashion, including merchandising and marketing. To get good Clients and sufficient pay, designer must be able to know the market Survey and the worth for the least piece of design.  Though, price can also be influenced based on the packages and styles by such fashion designer.

It should be noted that Fashion is a big Industry on its own and being a fashion designer involves more than just putting down a sketch of design. Designers often use special computer-aided design (CAD) software, modern sewing machine, skilled at sewing, and must be familiar with Colour theory and the many different types of materials used to make garments and accessories. 

Quest: Can you take us through the steps of Fashion Design.

Guest: Becoming a world-class Fashion Designer these days takes adequate learning; either as an apprentice or vocational Colleges. You may be worried that: What type of training is required to become a fashion designer?

Due to the big nature of Fashion, many fashion designers receive their training through a fashion design program at a technical college or university. Some attend schools dedicated to the study of fashion design, (fashion house), while others choose programs based in traditional colleges or apprenticeship. Just like normal school study certificate, fashion design is also to earn OND, higher national diploma, HND, degrees- bachelor,  postgraduate- master’s degree levels. Also available in Fashion school, you learn business ideas on how to market your work and earn a living with it.

Quest: Is Tailoring different from Fashion design?

Guest: The two come hand-in-hand, but they are separated as well. Unlike tailoring, where you sue and sell, Fashion design is more than this. Fashion design is a bigger field of tailor. Those who want to enter a fashion design program are often expected to develop basic skills before applying. A fashion program may require interested applicants to submit their portfolio, which may include some level of previous Certificate, may also be asked to if applicant has any experience in the field.

Having done these, some colleges require applicants to write and pass design and sewing tests when they apply. Designers may teach themselves these skills or take classes to develop these skills before applying into the college or University.

Quest: On the college side, what are the courses available?

Guest: Just as I mentioned earlier that Fashion design is all encompassing. Students in fashion design programs learn about sketching, draping, textiles, sewing, and creating of various unique patterns through CAD software. More importantly, being able to create design is the unique selling point is fashion design. They also learn about the history of fashion, trends forecasting, and the business of fashion.

Students of Fashion also create their own collection as a senior project. Just like Varsity students write project and thesis, Students in the fashion school also create designs for Collections and other student work can be valuable additions to a designer’s portfolio. Designers pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees, while learning, designer may focus on a particular type of design,  such as Men's wear, Women wears, children’s wear, intimate apparel, security wears, sportswear or security wears.

Students are also allowed to go for "Students' Industrial training", SIWES internship, and may be asked to excute projects to show he/she is well trained.  Such Students are placed on regular monitoring to take for assessment and further recommendations to aide his/her design skills.

Questione: What makes someone qualify as a fashion designer?

Guest: There is no really big certificate to qualify as Fashion designer, the skills matters and while it takes longer years for many to know the nitty gritty of Fashion design, some spend lesser years and establish their own Fashion house. 

To secure Government assistance and get work from big companies and Government, Fashion designers are to get registered by their local Authorities and get certified legally.

Guest: One of the importance of learning any craft is to make money and earn a living. Asking What does a fashion designer earn? 

Earnings of a Fashion designer varies based on geography location of the industry, currency rate in the market, value of design, level of Productivity and packagings attached to such Designers' craft.

You could earn as total as $70,653 in the United States as at 2021. Earnings in African Countries could be as low as $30,215, compared to European Countries.

There is also a growing percentage for Fashion Designer all over the world. Passion for Fashion is increasing daily with trends; hence, need be for more fashion designers to come on board.

Some Fashion Designers work for cooperate Organizations, Fashion Colleges and Vocational Schools, while most of the Fashion Designers are self-employed and advance in the industry by catching the attention of influential voices, Media personnel, newspaper, blog, fashion house and Business mogul.
