To be or marry to a full Housewife is to marry or disallow your wife from engaging in any extra business outside the home. To break it down, it is to marry or be a complete wife whose only business is to do house choirs like: cooking, cleaning and taking care of the family; while the husband performs all the monetary business and works to keep the Family running.
There have been divergent opinions from different angles; especially from Women who insist on staying as full Housewife.
Though, some Men chose to marry and make their wives only partake in home affairs while they deal with keeping the family with their money.
How good or bad is being a full Housewife? Do people still do it? Daily News Report samples opinions of couples and singles to know their perspectives about the topic of discussion.
To begin with Mrs Akinduro, a woman married since five years, she said she rejected being a full Housewife from her husband. She affirmed thus "since my teenage, I love to do business, I don't like demanding money from people. So, I started having a dream to build my business after I graduated from the University"
Mrs. Akinduro also added that after she got married to her husband, they already had the agreement to allow her to work even since when the dou began to date.
Her husband, Engineer Seyi Aanuoluwapo confirmed to us that "...to be sincere, I never wanted to allow my wife work, because I will be busy and she must not be too busy to take care of our kids. But, after we agreed to put our children in the boarding house, all got settled and she was already doing her business before we finally got married."
To see how it looks on another Culture, Daily News Report also contact Ms. Bello, who told us that she enjoyed being a full housewife. She said her husband wanted it that way and she needs to be submissive to her husband.
When asked how comfortable she is with the position, she said "There is no regret, though my husband may not give me what I demand at times quickly; but Allah is helping us and my husband is trying, we are doing very okay."
On a contrary opinion, Mr. Ahmed, a man who just got married few weeks ago said if his wife chooses to work, it's good and will benefit them. "I don't see any big deal in allowing my wife to work. To me, why some Men don't allow their wives to work is because some Men are too jealous, they don't want their wives to look outside, not to talk of any Man sighting her. So, they keep full housewife, " he added.
Mr. Ahmed also said as for him, he would prefered his wife working and not a full housewife. He said the current situation in Nigeria currently can not allow only the Man take responsibility of the whole family.
Daily News Report also sampl opinions from young adults. From our report, many of the ladies disagreed to be a full housewife. On a contrary, Miss Chinyere said she loves counting money, so she disagreed with full housewife. Mr. John, a 400 level Student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria; said his future wife must be ready to work.
We also ask further to know if it is laziness that made some women go for full Housewife. In our report, it indicates full Housewife could be cultural in nature; women from the Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani tribes seem to go for full housewife, while the Ibos in the southern part of Nigeria mostly go for engaging in Business with their husbands.
But, when contact, Mrs. Yemisi, a trader who engage in buying and selling of clothes; she said the decision for any woman to be a full Housewife must come from both couples. She insisted that Men should not force full Housewife nature on their wives.
For her reason, she said "There is scarcity of money, and the economy is somehow shaking these days. So, if the couples engage in their businesses, that will help and keep the family running with peace."
She however concluded that taking care of the family is the responsibility of both Husband and Wife, hence need be for them to share the responsibilities as they like, so as to build a lasting marriage.
