As the Election of the AAUA Student Union government comes closer, various Aspirants are coming up to roll out their agendas and market their ideas to the students.
Our correspondence had an interactive session with Elite- who is aspiring for SUG 003. He said his aspiration to serve the students at the level of Students' Union is borne out of the assessment of his capability and prompt cue which obviously relayed to him that the Secretariat needs proficient individual to sustain it's cardinal purposes.
He equally told us why he chose to go for the General Secretary amongst all other positions. As put thus: "We have 10 position in the Students' Executive Council (SEC) and I can tell you that, like every organization anywhere in the world, the Secretariat is indispensable, as such the union cannot serve her functions without any arrangement for that office. This is stating how important it is. It is unarguable that the Secretariat is the heartbeat of any organization, therefore it needs the most capable hand to function effectively and efficiently most especially in a demanding Students' Union like ours. This is why I want to take up the responsibility for the progress and betterment of the union and the Students entirely."
He moves further to tell us about is current position as a Union leader. He said "I currently serving as the Financial Secretary of one of the most populous department in AAUA, which happens to be the combination of Political Science and Public Administration named National Association of Political Science and Public Administration Students (NAPPAS)."
He also proceeded that his contributions in the association which have positive effects on the Students range beyond his primary duties, hinged on accountability and transparency. As concluded by him - "This position has provided one of the avenues for integrity test and the impacts I've made so far is there for our student-members to testify."
He further said he has no fear that his Faculty is having 001 and 003. As put by him ".. the fact remains that AAUASU003 is different from AAUASU001. Therefore, we're not competitors. I have my contenders in different faculty and as an advocate of unity of purpose based on the 'oneness' in our Union's motto, Faculty is not a yardstick for selecting quality Leaders."
Elite said he has sellable agendas which he has begin to roll out to all AAUAites. He said "I have gotten the experience and exposure, having served in the same capacity in various organizations in the past and currently. Under my watch, the Secretariat will do more than proper documentation as it is not enough of what every AAUAITES should enjoy from the Secretariat. If granted the privilege to oversee the office of AAUASU 003, I will go farther to constantly aggregate the interests of the students and ensure that the Students' Executive Council (SEC) is on the same page with the students and serve their actual interests.
He concluded "I believe no single AAUAITE is a 'blind voter' and they are ready to access all aspirants and put in place the most qualified." According to him, this is the best way we can go in a democratic settings.
