Following the recent meeting of the AAUA Board of Public Relation Officers, held on 8th of May, 20201 at the Student Union Building. Our Correspondent- Edekin-Oluya Daniel Oreoluwa was LIVE at the venue. His report:
The Public Relations Officers discussed how "EFFECTIVE PUBLIC RELATIONS HAD BEEN OVERTIME IN THEIR OFFICES?
Reacting, SOMASSA P.R.O. Comr. Afterpsyche said that SOMASSA, ever since the beginning of his tenure, he has had 5 -6 meetings with his departmental P.R.Os. He said, with strong claims that SOMASSA is the most populated Faculty in AAUA. He did self appraisal for his office, claiming with proofs acceptable by the house that his office has been active since inauguration.
Mainwhile, the EARTH SCIENCE P.R.O said No challenge so far in his department as regard disseminating information.
Other P.R.Os in attendance were the P.R.O of Physics and Electronics department, Faculty of Arts PRO, Mathematics Department PRO, Arts Education department PRO, Science Faculty PRO- who doubled as the Secretary of the Board of Public Relation Officer Association in Aaua; Fire Lord who is the Law P.R.O was also in attendance. The Chairman of AAUA board Of P.R.Os and AAUASU P.R.O Comrade Barryfem was also in attendance to chair the meeting.
The aforementioned P.R.Os all applauded themselves saying there was strong public relations and the major challenge is lack of Public Address System, which the Chairman- Comr Barryfem promised to table before the AAUASU SRC alongside his budget for the association.
While reacting, Comr Barryfem, AAUASU PRO said WhatsApp is not the largest medium to disseminate information, but the telegram which is most accommodating. He countered Comr. Asimbi- the Science Faculty PRO. Comr. Barryfem however said a program would come on-air via Aaua radio. We are glad to inform all students that this program has started and it is aimed at discuss about the union and the Students; with a view to bringing the students up to date on latest news.
Comr. Barryfem also said "There would be a press conference soonest before my administration hands over to the incoming administration". He furthered that in the conference, there would be Senior Media Officers in the Country, who will come to address the Media Bodies on any information in the institution.
Below are the resolutions of the meeting.
RESOLUTIONS, RULES AND REGULATIONS MADE AT THE BOARD MEETING TO GUIDE PUBLICITY AND INFORMATION ( 08/05/21)
1. That the AAUASU P.R.O must be in charge of all news coming from student Union
2. That Information shall be disseminated down to the grass root level. All Faculty P.R.Os are charged to create Faculty Class Reps groups for easy connection and dissemination of information to the students, directly.
3. That Students who are active online, should make sure they contact their Faculty or departmental P.R.Os or the SUG P.R.O for easy access to information.
4. Students that are not active online were considered in the deliberation and it was agreed that "bulk SMS", standard notice boards and the likes should be utilized to get them informed. The P.R.O of SOMASSA, Comrade Afterspeche promised to donate #4,000 to actualise the sending of the "bulk SMS" to students. The board also promised to fascilitate it when fund is available.
A contact list would be sent from the office of the SUG P.R.O through the Faculty and Departmental P.R.Os and the class representatives for students that are not active online to drop their hotlines for the bulk SMS.
5. That all Presidents of each department or at least each Faculty should try as much as possible to fascilitate means of addressing large audience. I.e Public Address system, megaphone or related gadgets.
6. Authenticate any information from the P.R.O about the institution before dissemination. Before operation, all blogs and media channels must be recognized by the SUG P.R.O and be registered with the NUCJ, AAUA. None should disseminate information carelessly or without confirmation from the authorities. And no one should go into any classroom to disseminate any information unless he/she is a P.R.O at any level, department, Faculty or registered association.
7. Publicity of any event (Banners, Posters, handbills) coming on and off campus must pass through the office of the student's union P.R.O
Also, pasting of posters and banners around the school except on designated area is prohibited.
While Students await the implementation of these resolutions, some of these students have raised concerns that some of these policies might suffered some setbacks, because the resolutions are been made when the tenures of those PROs are about to lapse.
